With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Wilkerson, age 70, of Smithville, Texas, on October 10, 2025. Mark was born in Alice, Texas on January 18, 1955 to the late Henry and Emily Wilkerson. He spent his childhood in Hialeah, Florida. His teen years were spent with family and friends diving for lobster in the keys, fishing, and water skiing.
Mark met his wife, Kathy, through a friend, proposed three weeks later, and married in January, 1976. Mark and Kathy moved to Smithville,Texas in 1978 and raised their two children Brooke and Keith. In pursuit of a career in law enforcement, Mark worked for the city of Smithville as a police officer and worked for the Bastrop Sheriff's Department from 1978-1981. From 1981-2013 when he retired, Mark worked with the LCRA in many capacities serving as a ranger and working swift water rescues. He lead a search and rescue dive team as well as lake patrol on Lake Travis. He served as a training coordinator towards the end of his career. He is now a retired peace officer with the state of Texas.
Mark's retirement years were filled with lounging in his serenity oasis in the backyard called "Kokomo." He enjoyed camping trips with friends and family where Mark was known to enjoy a good cigar, a shot of whiskey, and good barbeque. Mark was a certified PADI divemaster and enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and photography. Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, and Houston Texans games were Mark's favorites.
Mark attended St.Paul Catholic Church for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and showed love, humor, kindness, integrity, and humility to all who knew him. Mark's warm heart and unwavering love for all he knew will be missed, but his influence will continue to inspire everyone whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy, his daughter Brooke and son-in-law Jeremy, his son Keith and daughter-in-law Tina, sister Mary Lou Calabrese (Frank Sr.), brother Henry Wilkerson Jr. (Sharon), and grandchildren Jake, Emma, Josie, and Noah. He is preceded in death by his brother Mike Wilkerson.
A visitation with family and friends will be on Saturday October 18, 2025 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home located at 2079 HWY 71 East, Bastrop, Texas 78602 followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
A barbeque reception will be held following services at 603 Hudgins, Smithville,Texas 78957.
