Debra K. “Debbi” Smart, 63 of Humboldt, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 1, 2025 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Debbi was born March 27, 1962 in Jefferson, Iowa the daughter of Dennis D. and Sandra K. (Willison) Morehead. She was raised and educated in Jefferson. She married Mark Murphy and the couple spent time in Germany, Belgium and then Oklahoma. The marriage later dissolved. She later remarried and they made her home in Indiana, where she raised her son. Debbi worked as a recruiter, mainly handling government contracts and was extremely proud of the fact that she home schooled her son and balanced all of life’s duties. In 2017 she moved to Humboldt and worked at a clerk in the Casey store. Debbi enjoyed horses, Lord of the Rings, muscle cars, 80’s music and crime shows.
She is survived by her son Duncan (Maiya) Byrd of Fort Meade, Maryland and her brothers Troy Morehead and William Morehead of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at 601 3rd Avenue South, Dakota City. www.masonlindhart.com
