Delbert L. Heythaler, age 49, of Onaway, must have reached his ninety-ninth life in the late hours of Thursday, July 24, 2025, when he died at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. The son of Delbert and Dorisella "Sally" (Morgan) Heythaler, Delby was born in Onaway on November 3, 1975.

He is survived by his mother, Sally Heythaler of Onaway; brothers, Donald (Blair) and Daniel, both of Onaway; sisters, Debra (Tom) Pauly of Onaway and Diane Heythaler of Cheboygan; many nieces and nephews, the neighbor boys, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Dennis (Sherry); sister, Dawne Chasse; and nephew, Jeremy Heythaler.

Del was known as a risktaker, often doing things others wouldn't consider safe (hence the ninety-nine lives). Although he had many struggles throughout his life, he was a very caring and good person who loved his family and friends deeply. It was not uncommon for Del to help others by opening his home, taking them in, and helping them get back on their feet. He adored his great nieces and nephews and was close with the neighbors. He loved and cherished the time he spent with each of them.

A lifelong resident of Northern Michigan, Del loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing Kleber Pond, Black Lake, and the Black River. He hunted deer and loved exploring the woods. Del had a tender place in his heart for animals, especially his dogs, as well as his birds. He was an avid reader, a fantastic storyteller, and a jokester who loved to have a good time. His kindness towards others and his love for his family will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Delbert's family will receive friends at Chagnon Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 1:00 PM. Hospice chaplain, Dianne Myers will officiate. Delby's final resting place will be at North Allis Twp. Cemetery.
