Della Marie Petersen DeWitt, 80 years of age, passed away on May 10, 2025, in Show Low, Arizona. She was born September 24, 1944, in Snowflake, Arizona, and grew up in Claysprings, Arizona. Born the oldest of six children, she always tried her best to be a help to her parents and be a role model to her siblings.
She met the love of her life, Loran James DeWitt, in 1962, and on August 7, 1963, they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Arizona Mesa Temple. Della was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she loved the gospel. Her testimony was strong, and she loved the Lord. She was and forever will be a woman of great and unwavering faith! Her kindness toward others knew no bounds, and she was always ready to help family or friends with whatever they needed.
She was a very dedicated, talented, skilled, and strong woman. She was a legendary baker, could sew clothes of all types, garden like a pro, and preserve anything for future use. She skillfully maneuvered big, yellow school buses for years through the worst weather! For decades she made the most beautiful wedding cakes and quilts, and too many baby blankets to count! She taught her kids so many useful skills that at the time, they thought were unnecessary, but are now being fully appreciated. Family gatherings were her highlights in life. How she loved her family! In her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed spending time as a temple worker, with her husband, in the Arizona Snowflake Temple. Until the end, she was busy making beautiful quilts for her grandkids and taking care of her family whenever she could.
Della is survived by her five children: Lynn (Christine) of Show Low, AZ; John (Keri) of Providence, UT; Patricia (John) of Show Low, AZ; Donna, (Pete) of Show Low, AZ; and Deanna (Todd) of Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and 28 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Loran; parents, Lester and Marie; sister, Priscilla; sons-in-law, John and Pete; grandson, Michael.
A viewing will be held at 9:00 A.M. Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Linden Valley Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00, with Concluding Services and Interment in the Clay Springs Cemetery.
