Della Dietrich, age 84, of Kincaid, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
She was born on July 25, 1940, in Fort Scott,Kansas the daughter of Harold and Lucy Lee (Partridge) Smith. Della was a devoted homemaker and a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Known affectionately as Grandma D, Nana, and Nannie, her family was the center of her world.
Della worked as a waitress at the Red Barn in Fort Scott, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Dietrich. They were united in marriage in November 1971 and shared 54 beautiful years together. Their love was tender and enduring-Della especially cherished the quiet moments spent with Joe, her head resting in his lap as they watched westerns, or ending the day with a root beer float made just for them.
Della had a passion for life's simple joys. She loved cooking and baking, especially desserts and cookies that brought smiles to her family's faces. She found peace in reading, tending to her houseplants and flowers, and caring for animals. She especially loved going fishing with Joe and sharing the outdoors together.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Timothy Ray Stephens; her sisters, Beverly Beasley, Patricia Smith, and Sharon Kay Dawson; and two pre-infant children.
Della leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. She is survived by her husband, Joe Dietrich; her children, John Michael Stephens, Joseph Dietrich Jr., June Michelle (Shelly) Walton, Curtis Dietrich, LaLana Dietrich Moore, Christopher Dietrich, and James Matthew Stephens; along with many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Her life was one of kindness, resilience, and deep love for family-a legacy that will live on in all who knew her.
