Delta Lea Orthman of Scotia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Arbor Care Center in Ord, Nebraska at the age of 92.

Delta Lea was born April 8, 1933, in Gosper County, southeast of Elwood, Nebraska to Edward and Margaret (Mauck) Wildman. She attended rural schools in Gosper and Furnas counties and graduated in 1951 from Wheeler Central High School in Bartlett.

Following high school Delta taught in a rural school south of Red Cloud, Nebraska. On July 11, 1952, Delta and David "Alvie" Orthman were united in marriage at Red Cloud. To this union two children were born, David and Debra.

Mr. Orthman was serving in the U.S. Marine Corp when the couple was married. Delta accompanied Alvie to the different bases, living in Columbus, Georgia, Louisville, Kentucky and Oceanside, California. Following the service, they returned to Nebraska and lived on a ranch in Wheeler County. In 1967, they purchased a farm north of Scotia where they resided until 1995, when they moved into Scotia. Alvie passed away on August 29, 2000. Delta remained living in her home until her passing.

Delta was a member of the Scotia United Methodist Church where she was very active and taught Sunday School and Bible School and a charter member of the Scotia Garden Club.

She enjoyed working with children and was a Head-start Teacher for over 13 years. She also helped with Cub Scouts and Girls Scouts.

Delta raised a large garden which she used for canning and sharing the fruits of her labor. Family was especially important to her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Debra Orthman of North Loup; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Gary Cadek of North Loup; five grandchildren, Shawn Orthman, Danielle (Ross) Knott, Jason Cadek (Nick Kramer), Cory (Megan) Cadek and Cyle Cadek; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Marge Wildman and Jenny Wildman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvie; Rick Baker; two brothers, Jerry and Whitey Wildman and a sister, Madeline Schaepler.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Scotia United Methodist Church. Pastor Bruce Phillips and Pastor Arsene Lumami will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Scotia, Nebraska.
