Denny was born on September 19, 1940, to Frank and Elizabeth Hill. Denny spent his life dedicated to his family, his land, and his community. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Brainerd, on December 4, 1960, at the Federated Church in Whitewater. Together, they built a life of hard work, laughter, love, and deep-rooted faith. A lifelong farmer and rancher, Denny claimed to “retire” in 2021, but anyone who knew him wouldn’t be surprised to know that you could catch him out on the tractor just last week.
His work ethic was matched only by his love for the simple things: a freshly mowed yard, a good ball game on TV, and the view from his favorite chair in the sunroom, where he watched the wildlife that stopped by for their daily feed he had left out. Above all, Denny cherished time with his wife, family, and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His kindness and old-soul wisdom made a lasting impact on anyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a heart that went above and beyond for anyone, never asking for any recognition. Always just giving simply because that’s who he was.
Denny also gave generously of his time and leadership. He served on the Remington School District school board for 16 years, was an active member of the Soil Conservation board for many years, was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, served many years on the Furley United Methodist church board, and served several years on the Kanza Cooperative Board.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Hill; his son Gary Hill (Karma), daughter-in-law Gina Hill-Eldredge, grandchildren Grant Hill, Luke Hill, Dylan Hill (McKayla), Hunter Hill and Alyssa Eldredge; great-grandchildren Maelyn Hill and Beau Hill; and many cherished nieces, nephews and dear friends who were like family.
Denny was preceded in death by his son Jerry Hill, his parents Frank and Elizabeth Hill, and his brothers Ronnie Hill and Jack Johnson.
Denny passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
A celebration of Denny’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Furley United Methodist Church. Lunch will follow.
