Denny Earl Mitts, 81, of
Masontown, WV, passed on peacefully to be with the Lord in the early hours of Saturday, July 19, 2025, while in the presence of his beloved wife and children.
He was born on March 21, 1944, in Taylorsville, MD, a son of the late Pearl (Hooper) Mitts and stepfather, Earl Mitts.
Denny was a loving and cheerful husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He was deeply devoted to his wife, Cora, with whom he spent many joyful years. His children, Victoria and Denny also enjoyed many special moments with him during his life. In addition, Denny's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special and dear to him, each occupying a very bright place in his life and heart. Denny felt that the presence of his family was a true blessing from God. He cherished and wholly loved everyone he called his family and a friend. Included in those Denny considered family were the members of his local church, He's Alive Tabernacle. Among those dearest to him, were Pastor John Wagner and his wife, Tonya, who became very close to Denny in recent years.
Denny was a Union Electrician with IBEW Local #26 of Washington, D.C. for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Denny's service included recruit training in Illinois and was then stationed with Training Squadron VT2 in Whiting Field Milton, FL, followed by Patrol Squadron VP24 in Keflavik, Iceland.
Throughout his life, Denny enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his creative drive, talents, and diverse interests. These included scale-model building, photography, horticultural studies, recreational shooting, fishing, and game sportsmanship. At the forefront of all activities was his deep desire to share and discuss the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. Denny was a witness for God to many people over the years.
Denny is survived by his wife, Cora Lee (Shaffer) Mitts; children, Victoria Louetta Lavinia Nicholson and husband Bill, and Denny Jesse and wife, Angie; grandchildren, Christopher, Dillan and wife, Icie, Tyler, and Jocelyn; great-grandchildren, Izak, Elijah, and Noah; siblings, Ty Mitts and wife, Lynn, Earlene Sawyer and husband, John, and Sue White-Wagaman.
