Diane Carolyn Smart, 79, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Delaware, surrounded by the love of her family. Diane was born to Charles and Ethel Shirey on October 17, 1945, in Maryland, where she grew up and later spread her wings to create a life filled with love, joy, and enduring faith.

Diane was a beacon of courage and love, touching the lives of all who knew her. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Tina (Lester) Atkins, and her sons, Norman (Shelby) Wagner, Jonathan Wagner Sr., and Charles Wagner. Diane's nurturing spirit extended beyond her children to her many grandchildren: Timothy, A.J., Elijah, Leslie, Lacey, Justin, Rhiannon, JJ, Timmy, Jenna Rose, Miranda, and Connor, as well as to her cherished great-grandchildren. Each of them was a testament to her loving nature and the values she instilled.

Throughout her life, Diane's faith-filled heart was a source of strength and inspiration for her family and friends. She lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and a commitment to her community. Diane's courage was evident in her ability to face life's challenges head-on while maintaining a positive outlook and an unwavering spirit.

Diane's love for the natural world was apparent to all who knew her. Her passion for flowers was more than a hobby; it was a way of connecting with the beauty of creation. She found solace and joy in the simple pleasure of tending to her garden, where she would spend hours nurturing her plants with the same care she gave to her relationships.

Her affection for animals, especially cats and dogs, was another facet of her compassionate personality. Diane's fur baby, Buddy, predeceased her but remained a cherished memory in her heart. The bond they shared was a testament to her capacity for unconditional love and companionship.

Diane's legacy is one of love, courage, and faith. She was a pillar of strength for her family, a confidante to her friends, and a nurturing presence to all the lives she touched. As we bid farewell to Diane Carolyn Smart, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible mark she left on this world. Her memory will be forever cherished, and her spirit will continue to guide us. Diane's journey through life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of faith, and the courage to face each day with a loving heart.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday August 2, 2025, at Parsons Cemetery, 912 N. Division St., Salisbury, MD 21801.
