Donald A. Beatty, 88, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at St. Peter Hospital.
Don was born on September 7, 1936, in Olympia, Washington, and grew up with his sister Marilyn and brother Rick. After graduating from Olympia High School in 1954, he served in the U.S. Army for four years and the National Guard for another four years. His best memories of that time was when he was stationed in Japan.
Don worked 30 years for the State of Washington, first for the State Patrol and then the Department of Revenue. After retiring, he provided security and served as a color guard during several legislative sessions.
Don was outgoing with a friendly and jovial personality. Wherever he went, he did so with a smile. Don's interests included travelling, collecting antique glass, boating at their house on Lake Pattison, playing cribbage, and he was a proud fan of the University of Washington Huskies. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.
Don leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Paula, a son Chip Beatty (Susan), daughters Kari Olson (John), Lorraine Johnson (Rob), and Janna Cox (Mike), as well as seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Mary Beatty, as well as his brother, Rick Beatty.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 5930 Mullen Road, Lacey. Please come and share stories and honor his life. A reception will follow.
