Donald Eugene "Hev" Caylor, 66 of Ridgeville, IN, passed unexpectedly in the line of duty on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Hev was born in Portland, IN, on December 22, 1958, a son of the late Nova Florene (Jarrett) and Donald H. Caylor. He was a 1977 graduate of Winchester High School and the loving husband of Rebecca Ann "Becky" (Moland) Caylor who he happily married on July 8, 1989. A devoted husband and father, with an ornery streak who loved a good prank and a strong cup of black coffee. Hev was known for his blue eyes, simple and down to earth personality, never met a stranger, would do anything to help those in need but look out for Papa Bear if you hurt his girls. This hard working, competitive, free-thinking man, who said what he thought and was ever ready to respond to the call, was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 507, Ridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, Randolph County Horse and Pony Club for over 30 years, loved farming, truck driving and working with his hands. He enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, Ping Pong, horseback riding, trips to Brown County, swimming, an afternoon stroll in the car with his wife Becky, watching Walker Texas Ranger repeatedly, the 3 Stooges, Ray Stevens, collected bread ties and old nuts and bolts just in case you might need them for something, and to greet you with a sneaky toss of a fire cracker or a clown mask in the dark. Hev was real, made no apologies, needed no recognition, was grateful for his family and cherished the community he served. To him service was a gift and an honor, but we were honored to have him as a leader, a public servant and a member of this community. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Becky, daughters; Elizabeth Marie (Caylor) Rhoads (husband Chance), Shelby Louise Florene (Caylor) Clark (husband Bryant R.), sister; Esther Hollowell (husband George), several nieces, nephews and countless friends, service members and fellow firefighters. Hev was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Harry Jo Caylor, Bill Caylor and sister; Jackie Sue Bost. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 3-7 PM and Friday, March 14, 2025, from 11-12 at MJS Mortuaries - Ridgeville Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 12 PM on Friday with Pastor Jonathan Edwards officiating. Burial and Fire Honors will be held in Salamonia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Supporting Heroes or Randolph County 4H Horse and Pony Club. We would like to thank all of the first responders, area police, fire and EMS members who have stepped up to support the family, community, Ridgeville Volunteer Fire Department and the funeral home in coordinating services and Hev's Honor Ride to and from the hospital. Such an outpouring of love and support is a priceless gift that can never truly be repaid. Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries - Ridgeville Chapel.
