Donald Ham Obituary

Donald Kendall Ham

March 5, 1952 - July 13, 2025

Donald Kendall Ham passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, surrounded by his family, following a stroke.

Born on March 5, 1952, in Hastings, Nebraska, Don was the son of Kendall and Margaret Ham of Saronville, Nebraska. He was raised on the family farm and attended a country school through the 8th grade before graduating from Sutton High School in 1970. A Regents Scholar, Don earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1977.

Don devoted his entire professional life to public accounting, specializing in the banking industry. He retired in 2015 as an Audit & Quality Control Partner at BKD LLP. In recognition of his distinguished career, he was inducted into the University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Accountancy Hall of Fame in 2018. Don was a proud member of the Nebraska Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs, and he served on both the School of Accountancy Advisory Board and the Dean's Advisory Board at UNL. In retirement, he continued to share his expertise as a board member of Lincoln Federal Savings Bank.

Beyond his professional achievements, Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He found joy in Husker sports, golfing, collecting classic cars, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Jen; his children, Amanda (Josh) Ziemba, Mitchell (Mary) Ham, and Julianne (Trevor) Fosler; and his grandchildren, Parker, Karsyn, and Cameron Ziemba; Kendall and Sienna Ham; and Brynn Fosler. He is also survived by his sister, Terri (Terry) McGinnis; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kendall and Margaret Ham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the general fund for the School of Accountancy at University of Nebraska-Lincoln or Orphan Grain Train Lincoln, 1901 SW 6th Street, Suite #1, Lincoln, Neb. 68522.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 20th from 4 pm to 6 pm at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln, Neb.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21st at 1 pm at Lincoln Berean Church, 6400 S. 70th Street.

Don and I are first cousins, and I have so many fond memories growing up and spending Holidays with his family and other cousins. Gut busting laughter in the back of church, trying to hold it in, as it wasn't quite appropriate. Yes, Don.....not being quite appropriate. So many other non holiday times in the back yards, building hay
bale forts in the barn, just watching the livestock, home made ice cream, and just good fun. I will miss him, and have one word to describe his sense of humor. SLY God bless you Don.
