Donald V. Marten, 93, of Norwalk, died Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Morrow Home in Sparta. He was born on August 12, 1931, to Ernest and Lena (Nauman) Marten on the family farm in the Town of Tomah. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Ridgeville. He was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Graduating Class of 1949. After high school he was united in marriage to Darlene Tessier on August 9, 1954, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2010. Together they purchased a farm in the Town of Wilton, where he farmed until his retirement January 4, 2002. Don enjoyed spending his time feeding and watching the birds, hunting, and working in his garden. He will always be remembered for his easy going personality and telling jokes to make people laugh.
He is survived by 6 children, Thomas and Jim of Norwalk, Roger of Tomah, Elizabeth "Beth" of Norwalk, Sarah (Jim) Courey of Waco, TX, and Russell of Norwalk, 5 grandchildren, Tabatha (Silas) Howell, Tristan Becherer, Mikayla Becherer, Anna Courey, and Zachary, 3 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Westin, and Aurora, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Erin Marten, 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen and Luann Marten, and Leonard and Jan Marten.
A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 12 Noon at St. John Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Ridgeville, Pastor Robert Gerke will officiate. Military Honors by The Curtis-McNutt VFW Post #1382
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801, E. Monowau St. Tomah. Online condolences may be sent to www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com
