Donald McElhaney Obituary

Donald Hastings McElhaney of Macomb Township passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the age of 74.
Donald was born on January 28, 1951 in Shelbyville, Tennessee to Hastings Shires and Floley Mae (nee Eley) McElhaney. He was the youngest of six children but according to his mother, the strongest. Don started working young to provide for his family and continued to do so into his adult life. On April 25, 1969, he married Sandra LaDuc at her parent's home in Roseville, Michigan and together they raised two children and shared 56 wonderful years together. On February 1, 1977, at 26 years old, Don opened his first mechanic shop. He was a hard worker; his family was always his top priority and he made sure they were well provided for and then some. In December of 2007, he turned S & K Muffler over to his son to carry on the family business. Don was a car lover. He knew everything there was to know about them and everyone came to him with their car questions. Classic car shows, boating, RV traveling and snow birding to Florida were some of the things he enjoyed doing with his family and friends. Don was always teasing his family and friends about "goofing" but eventually tried "goofing" himself and found he enjoyed golfing too. He had a huge loving and generous heart and would help anyone who was in need. Don was loved by many and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Don is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Don (Patty) Jr.; daughter, DeAnna (Todd) England; grandchildren, Justin, Cassie, Turner and Drake; great-grandson, Logan; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Don is preceded in death by his four sisters; one brother and parents.
Visitation for Don will take place on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with an instate time of 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be immediately following the funeral service at Glen Eden Cemetery, Macomb.
