Doris Blackwell Obituary
Doris C. Blackwell, affectionally known as "COOKIE", entered the joy of life with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2025. She was born on December 1, 1960, in New Haven, CT to the late Mackie McClary and Elizabeth (Malloy) McClary, hardworking parents that raised her with spirituality and discipline. After graduating from Saint Mary's High School, while working at Pratt & Whitney, she met the love of her life, George Nelson Blackwell, II. Following Pratt & Whitney she began working at Bayer Pharmaceutical Company, then finding her true passion working in the educational field for the New Haven Public School system. She began her career as an educator in 2003 as a substitute aide at Davis Street School and later transitioned to a full-time paraeducator position. Cookie worked at Hill Central and Quinnipiac School, where she spent most of her tenure. For the last three years of her 22-year career, she was a valued staff member at the Barack Obama Magnet University School.
Cookie, was a lifetime member of St. Matthew's UFW Baptist Church, eventually being ordained as a Mother of the church. She loved praising God, her family, friends, shopping, cooking, and being spoiled by her husband. Her beauty, skills, trust, no-nonsense, and direct personality was one of a kind. She dressed sharp, was confident, caring, uniquely secure and positive, yet unaware her presence gained attention upon entry.
