Doris was born January 10, 1931, to Dale B. and Ollie M. Coffee in Indianola, Oklahoma, on their family farm. She was the youngest of six children: Rayburn Royce, Jewell, Wilburn and Lena. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1949 and went on to graduate from Draughn's Business College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She worked in Oklahoma City where she met and married John Edward Bowman in 1950. They moved to Casper, Wyoming, where their daughter, Pamela Jo Bowman, was born. They were later divorced.

Doris began her career with the State of Colorado at the Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado. She married Virgil V. Davis (Tex) in Pueblo in 1965. In 1968, she transferred to the State Division of Mental Health in Denver, Colorado, where she was the Executive Secretary to the Director of Mental Health. She retired in 1986 after completing 30 years of service with the State of Colorado. Governor Richard Lamm attended her retirement party and presented her with a plaque commemorating her 30 years of service.

After retiring, she and Virgil moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. She enjoyed her retirement years, along with Virgil. They traveled the world on many cruises. The also traveled the United States in their motor home, pulling their boat and fishing. They enjoyed visiting their families during this time.

Doris enjoyed crocheting, growing beautiful plants, hosting family and friends, playing the piano and singing. She was an example of faith in God, devotion to her family, responsibility, loyalty and always had a positive attitude. She was a faithful member of Monument Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was affectionately known as Gram and Grams.

She was widowed in 2007 and continued to live in Grand Junction until 2018 when she moved to the Denver area to be close to all of her family. Doris passed into Heaven on August 17, 2025, at 94 years of aga.

Doris is survived by her daughter Pamela Hurd (Thomas), grandchildren Kent Hurd (Mindy), Timothy Hurd (Jazmine), Kirstie Benke (Ryan), Kelly Hansen and Jamie Bowman (Jesse Caudill). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Creed Benke, Zach Benke, Ivan Benke, Selah Benke, Timmy Hurd, Maddie Hurd, Liam Hurd, Ryan Hansen, Emilie Hansen, Brooke Hansen, Baylee Walker and Addie Walker. She is also survived by her step-daughter Delia Drake, step-grandchildren Clint Davis, Indi Busch, Walter Drake and Curtis Drake and step-great grandchild Douglas Moore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all five siblings, her son John J. Bowman, husband Virgil Davis, step-sons Vic Davis and Jack Davis.

She is interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Broomfield, Colorado.
