Doris's life was a testament to love, dedication, and unwavering faith. She married the love of her life, Larry Werner, on January 21, 1967, embarking on a beautiful journey together that spanned 52 wonderful years. Their love was a beacon of hope and joy, and together they built a family rooted in Christian values.
A proud graduate of Leesville High School, Doris pursued higher education with zeal, attending both Northwestern State University and McNeese State University. She began her career as a telephone operator in the late 1960s, but her passion for education led her to return to school to obtain her teaching degree. Doris devoted 27 years to the Vernon Parish School Board, where she inspired countless students as a teacher of Kindergarten, 4th grade, Title I, 4th grade at Faith Training Christian Academy. Her commitment to education earned her the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award at Evans High School, a testament to her exceptional skills and caring nature.
Doris was also actively involved in the community, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and a dedicated member of the ADK Teacher's Sorority, serving one term as President. Throughout her life, she mentored numerous aspiring teachers, sharing her wisdom and nurturing their growth in the profession she cherished. Her impact on her students and colleagues was profound, and she will be remembered for her happy disposition and the light she brought into the lives of others.
In her personal life, Doris was a wonderful painter, channeling her creativity into beautiful works of art that will be cherished by her family and friends. Her artistic spirit reflected her outlook on life, which was always filled with joy and appreciation for the beauty around her.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Larry, of 52 years.
Doris is survived by daughters Debbie Twyman and husband Jerry, and Tammy Blackwell and husband Rodney. She was a proud grandmother to grandsons Ross (Tatelyn), Ryan (Gabrielle), Grant, (Tessa), and Nathan (Sidnie), as well as a doting great-grandmother to her precious great-granddaughter Madilynn. She was a loving sister to Glenda Ann Bass. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her love into each one of them.
