Obituary of Doris Lillian Ogren
Doris Lillian (Sheppard) Ogren, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and longtime resident of Burlington, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 27, 2025, at the age of 91, after a long and courageous journey with illness.
Born and raised in Somerville, Doris met the love of her life, Bradford "Brad" Ogren, as a teenager. Their bond was immediate and enduring. They married in 1954, when Doris was just 20 years old, beginning a beautiful and inseparable partnership that spanned more than seven decades. In 1964, they found their forever home in Burlington, where they lovingly raised their three children and built a life filled with laughter, care, and lasting memories.
Doris began her career as an administrative assistant, but her heart was always with her family. After the birth of her first child, she devoted herself entirely to the role she cherished most: being a full-time mother. She poured her love and energy into her home, always present with a healing touch, a listening ear, and boundless support-especially for her sons, who were never short on scrapes, bruises, and spirited adventures. Doris was hands-on and wholeheartedly involved in every part of her children's and grandchildren's lives, whether it was school events, sporting games, or just everyday moments. She delighted in teaching her grandchildren to skate before they could barely walk and was overjoyed to cheer them on from the stands during hockey games.
Energetic and full of life, Doris embraced each day with enthusiasm. She was an avid golfer and a spirited tennis player, often enjoying friendly matches at the Woburn and Billerica Country Clubs. She was also a proud and longtime member of the Burlington Country Club. Summer days were her favorite-watching her children swim while enjoying the company of her close-knit group of girlfriends brought her so much happiness.
Travel was another great joy in Doris's life. Together with Brad, she explored far and wide-from the romantic canals of Italy to the beauty of Hawaii, the excitement of Las Vegas, and the majesty of Alaska. But her heart was always fullest at their summer home in Falmouth, which became the heartbeat of family life. There, generations gathered, played, and connected. Doris especially loved watching her children and grandchildren enjoy the beach, their laughter echoing through the years.
Creative and talented, Doris was a master quilter, seamstress, and knitter, gifting her family with handmade heirlooms filled with warmth and love. She also enjoyed ceramics. She also had a special gift for finding just the right thing at the perfect price-a savvy shopper who took pleasure in surprising her loved ones with thoughtful, often stylish finds.
At the center of it all was Doris's family. She and Brad celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2024-a remarkable milestone and a reflection of a marriage built on deep love, mutual respect, and joyful companionship. Together, they created a home that was a haven for generations-a place filled with love, comfort, and unwavering support.
Doris's greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She saw each one as unique and special, and her heart swelled when the whole family was together. She was strong-willed and spirited, often with a sparkle in her eye, but it was her boundless kindness and deep love that defined her most.
Now free from the effects of Alzheimer's, Doris is reunited with her beloved Brad, their cherished daughter Laura, and her dear parents and siblings. While her presence will be deeply missed, the love she gave lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Doris was the beloved wife of the late Bradford "Brad" Ogren who passed in December of 2024. She was the loving mother Bradford Ogren, Jr. of Burlington, Derek Ogren, Sr. & his wife Tammy of Billerica and the late Laura Murray & her surviving husband Thomas, III. of Meredith, NH, formerly of Burlington, She was the proud "Nana" of Danielle McCarthy & her husband Devin, Jessica Nearhos & her husband Nicholas, Derek Ogren, Jr., and Cameron Ogren. She was the great grandmother of Allison and Thomas McCarthy. Doris was predeceased by her siblings Barbara Berg, William Sheppard, and Richard Sheppard.
