Doris V. Stewart

Athol, MA - With heavy Hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished Mother, Doris V. (Woodbury) Stewart on February 11, 2025. She passed after a short illness at home surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on June 5, 1931, to Carroll D. Woodbury, Sr. and Dora (Morton) Woodbury in Winchendon, MA. She lived in Petersham, Athol, East Templeton and Royalston, MA and Odessa, FL. She married the love of her life Kenneth Luther Stewart on March 4, 1950. They celebrated 66 years of marriage. She had three children, Dorena Stewart-St.Onge of Athol (who she lived with), Daniel Stewart and his wife Lorraine of East Templeton, Deborah (Stewart) Henshaw and her husband Fred of Templeton.

She was very proud of her grandchildren; Marc Stewart Winer and his wife Michelle of Agawam, Carla Stebbins and her husband Matt of East Templeton, Joshua Winer of Philadelphia PA, Stewart Henshaw of Templeton and Luther Henshaw of Gardner. She was even more proud of her great grandchildren; Pryce Stewart and his wife Kateri of Athol, twins Phylicia Stebbins and Alicia Stebbins, both of East Templeton, Mara Winer and partner Andrew Holmes of Enfield, CT, Michael Winer and partner Meghan Beaumier of Windsor Locks, CT and Amy Joy Henshaw of Gardner. Her Great, great grandchildren; Dagonet and Daelyn Stewart of Athol. She leaves many friends both here and in Florida that meant a great deal to her, especially her best friend Doris Steinbach of Athol and others that are too many to mention.

Doris leaves behind siblings: Louise (Woodbury) Mayo from North Carolina, Lorraine (Woodbury) Smith, from Florida, Roy Woodbury, from North Carolina, Clyde Woodbury from Templeton.. She was predeceased by siblings Morton Woodbury, Alice Newbury, Carroll Woodbury, Jr. and Roland Woodbury. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Stewart and son-in-law Michael St. Onge. She also leaves many, many beloved nieces and nephews.

Doris ran a kindergarten in her home in East Templeton when her children were young. She owned and ran Lee's Hot Dog Stand in Baldwinville for many years, where she was known to all as Fuzzy. She ran the office at Ken Stewart Transmission Co for many years. She taught Sunday School, was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, and was involved with Dollars for Scholars. She was member of the Jesamine Chapter OES in Gardner. She also was a member of South Athol United Methodist Church, where she served on the mission committee. She was a member of the Friends of the Athol COA and Athol Golden Age Club. She was an active member of Millers Ladies at River Bend and Millers Woods where she lived for 8 years. Doris touched many people that worked with or for her with her professional yet caring demeanor.

Dot was an avid Bridge player for over 70 years. She ran a Bridge club out of her Home every Thursday afternoon with as many as 12 players who turned out to be great friends. She also played Bridge on Saturday with her Son Dan, Daughter Dorrie and Best friend Doris. She loved doing crossword puzzles, tending to her plants inside and out. She loved reading and always had a book going. She was always a caring person and took care of so many around her. She will be sorely missed by family and friends that have had the pleasure to know and love her.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00AM at the South Athol United Methodist Church, 65 Morgan Ave., Athol, MA.
