Dorothea Lorainne "Dolly" Benner, 87, of Newark, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the Country Aire Retirement Center in Lewistown, Missouri.

Dolly was born on April 16, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Frank and Catherine Chavez.

She attended the Mt. Diablo School in Concord, California graduating in the Class of 1956.

On November 17, 1965, in California Dolly married James Roger Benner and they moved to Missouri in 1970 to make their home.

She worked many years at the Davis Cleaver Poultry Processing in Quincy, Illinois until her retirement in 2015. She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Quincy, Illinois. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Dolly is survived by her son and daughter in law, Walter Rodney and Joan Hawkins of Newark, MO; Three granddaughters, Rose-ann, Ruthie and Kimmi; Five great grandchildren, Celia, Manuel, Gianni, Jocelyn and Alexander; three great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gail Zella of Montana; niece and her husband, Wendee and Glenn Tartaglia of New Jersey; niece, Kristen Pound of Montana; nephew and his wife, Jason and Jennifer Chavez of Montana; and grand nephews and nieces of Arizona and Montana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Frank Chavez; brother, Philip Martin Chavez; daughter, Annette Marie; and nephew, Martin Scott Chavez.

A Celebration of Life for Dolly Benner will be Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Newark Town Hall in Newark, Missouri.

Doss Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
