BELLVILLE: Dorothy Irene Bonin, age 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 9, 1933 in Lexington to Joseph and Cora (Hatfield) Larimore, Dorothy was raised in a large, hardworking farm family. Growing up milking cows and raising pigs, she learned the value of hard work, humility, and the importance of family. A 1951 graduate of Lexington High School, Dorothy went on to work at Therm-O-Disc where, through a mutual friend and a fateful blind date, she met Charles Bonin, Jr.
Dorothy and Charles were married on February 1, 1958, and shared 53 years of marriage before Charles's passing in 2011. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. As a devoted wife and mother, Dorothy poured her heart into raising their children, creating a home where learning and curiosity were encouraged. Whether teaching her kids how to bake from scratch (including making the casual mess), or how to milk a cow and care for horses, Dorothy led by example-with patience, love, and a quiet strength. She also dedicated time as a room mother at school, becoming a familiar and beloved face to both teachers and students.
Family vacations were spent adventuring across the country to National Parks, Dorothy and Charles shared their love of nature and camping with their children. Later in life, she and Charles continued to travel, enjoying memorable trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Alaska.
Dorothy was a longtime, faithful member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church where she served in many quiet, meaningful ways-preparing communion, helping with funeral meals, and caring for infants in the bawl room. She loved volunteering at the Bellville Neighborhood Outreach Center, where she made many friendships and gave back to her community.
Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness, her encouraging spirit, and her ability to listen with genuine intent. She was a safe place for many-offering love, support, and the kind of wisdom that comes only from a life well lived.
She is survived by her children: John Bonin, Irene Cooperrider, and Larry (Kim) Bonin; grandchildren: Nick (Ashlee) Blevins and Erica Boor; great-grandchildren: Caleb Blevins and Allie (Jonas) Raber; siblings: Charles (Mary) Larimore, Jim Larimore, Arlene Staats, and Sharon (Tom) Bellino; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles Bonin; daughter-in-law Cindy Maurer Bonin; granddaughter Ashley Marie Cooperrider; great-granddaughter Julia Ann Stinchcomb-Blevins; sisters Margaret Isley, Wanda Adams, Anna Lea Snyder, Ruby Opal Dall, and Joyce Wendand; an infant brother and sister; and sister-in-law Judy Larimore.
Her family will receive friends Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Pastor Ben Weisbrod will officiate, and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
