Dorothy Jean Havard, 89, of Markham Illinois, passed away peacefully at 8:35 am on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Avantara Nursing Home in Chicago Ridge.
She was born on October 5, 1935, in Hobart, Indiana to George and Mildred (Austin) McKinney. Dorothy graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1954. On August 15, 1954, she married Robert Cecil Thurner and was the proud mother of three children. Robert and Dorothy were married for 23 years, living in Hebron, Indiana.
Dorothy then moved to the southern suburbs of Chicago and began working for various businesses in Chicago as a receptionist. This included Sidley and Austin, Lasalle National Bank and Paul Harvey News. On May 30, 1992, she married Eldred (Al) Havard and lived with him in Markham, Illinois until his death in April 2024.
In her younger years, Dorothy enjoyed dancing, bowling, seeing concerts and live shows in Chicago, and traveling. She loved growing flowers around her home.
Surviving are her children, Robert James Thurner, Cynthia Jean Anderson, and Carla Jayne Isla; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as two sisters, Helen Gilland and Mary Kacher.
Cremation will take place. Graceland Cemetery, 1505 Morthland Dr, Valparaiso, IN 46383, (219) 462-3511, is caring for the arrangements. A small graveside service for close family and friends will take place there on July 21st.
