Dorothy Hensley Obituary
Dorothy Louise Barnwell Hensley, age 95, of Swannanoa, NC, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at her residence.
Dorothy was born on August 20, 1928, in Buncombe County, NC to the late Boyd M. Barnwell and Naomi Rhymer Barnwell. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Bee Tree Missionary Baptist Church in Swannanoa.
Dorothy was a sweet soul with a heart of gold. She was very loving and a caring Christian lady. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy was a great cook and was known for her delicious tater cakes, corn bread, and cream corn. She also made the best raspberry jelly you have ever had!
Dorothy also had a love for all animals. She made friends with a little squirrel who would visit her everyday and eat right out of her hand. Sometimes when Dorothy would have a picnic outside her squirrel buddy would sit with her and share her lunch!
Dorothy loved and cared for everyone and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Grady Morgan; son Calvin Lee Morgan; second husband Kermit Hensley; sister, Margaret Doughit; and brother B. M. Barnwell.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her brother, Don Barnwell and his wife Sue of Swannanoa; niece, Kimberly Hayes and husband Bobby of Swannanoa; great-niece, Emily Hayes of Fairview, NC and a host of other nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 12PM at Bee Tree Missionary Baptist Church at 24 Long Branch Rd., Swannanoa, NC with Pastor Jeff Tomberlin and Pastor Jesse Vess officiating.
The Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 11AM to 12PM. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.
Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
