Dorothy Catherine Janes, age 84, died on June 16, 2025, at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. She was born on September 8, 1940, in Owosso, Michigan, to Norman and Mary (Gross) Dowen.
Dorothy was raised in Owosso and graduated from Owosso High School. She spent much of her life focused on her home and family. As a homemaker, she took pride in running an orderly household and maintaining a well-kept yard and home. Her Christian faith guided her throughout her life, and she approached responsibilities with quiet consistency.
She was deeply committed to her husband, Eldon Dale Janes, who preceded her in death. Their long marriage was marked by mutual respect and enduring partnership. She often spoke of him with loyalty and gratitude.
Dorothy also carried a deep admiration for her father, Norman Dowen, whom she remembered as a kind and warmhearted man. His character left a lasting impression on her, and she referred to him frequently with respect and affection.
Some of Dorothy's favorite memories came from family camping trips to Higgins Lake, where she and her son spent two weeks each summer during his childhood. She especially enjoyed recalling the time he tried-unsuccessfully but with great determination-to catch chipmunks using a box, stick, and string.
She is survived by her son, Doug (Renee) Janes; her grandchildren, Kyle (Kari) Janes, Kevin (Andrea) Janes, and Ericka (Austin) Wamser; and her great-grandchildren, Carson, Liam, Owen, Olivia, and Alaina. Her brother, Hubert (Bobbie) Dowen, also survives her.
Dorothy's life was grounded in family, faith, and familiar routines. She will be remembered with appreciation by those who knew her.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 19th, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 111 N. Howell St. Owosso, internment will follow Mass at Fairfield Township Cemetery.
