Dorothy Eugenia Owens, age 90, of Canton and previously of Mableton, passed away August 6, 2025. Dorothy was born in November of 1934 to Vander Lawson Howell and Maudie Estelle Howell (née O'Kelley) in Atlanta. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Glenn Brown Owens. Dorothy was a woman of quiet faith. She diligently read her Bible in the evenings and valued the fellowship of church congregations. Through the years, she had been a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist, Brownwood Baptist, Calvary Baptist in Austell, and recently, Calvary Baptist in Canton. In earlier years, Dorothy enjoyed serving her church family in various capacities, from teaching Sunday School and VBS to singing in the choir. There was nothing that fulfilled Dorothy more than taking care of her family. She was a hardworking and devoted homemaker. Dorothy also found solace in the outdoors, where she enjoyed her flowers. Outside of the home, she often helped her husband with his business both in bookkeeping and driving a dump truck. She also worked in accounting at both Purolator Courier and retired from Pony Express. She completed a more personal accomplishment at the age of 52 by receiving her GED in 1988. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Glenn Brown Owens; her parents; and several of her siblings. Dorothy is survived by her children: Kathy Bradley (Wally) of Canton James "Butch" Owens (Ellan) of Cartersville, and Glenda Shiver (Benny) of Canton; Grandchildren: Alton Brown Owens (Jordan), Jaime Bosurgi (Billy) and Kelli Shiver Four Great Grand Children. Siblings, Billy Howell (Janice), Mary Jo Treece (Hank), Penny Ramsey (Bob), and Betty Jean Vaugn (Johnny) and many beloved extended family and friends. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, August 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Dorothy's life will be held Monday, August 11, 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Pastor Jeff Hill officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
