Born on December 26, 1924, Dorothy was the youngest of four daughters of the late Joseph and Tekla Pietrowski. Growing up in the Bayway section of Elizabeth, NJ she was raised in a strict, Polish Roman Catholic household. She graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth in 1942.

Dorothy remained involved in her later years and went into the office two days a week, tapering off to one day a week up until 2019.
A lover of culture and adventure, Dorothy had a deep appreciation for New York City, where she enjoyed attending operas in her younger years. She held a special place in her heart for Maine, a destination she visited many times, and she fondly remembered her travels to Iceland, which left a lasting impression on her spirit.
