Dorothy Lee Harper Smith was born on September 9, 1930, to the late Joe Harper and Lela Robinson Harper. Dorothy attended Galveston Public Schools and graduated with the Central High School class of 1948. After high school she matriculated to Prairie View A&M. She made her mark in history by graduating March 31, 1956, from the school's first Registered Nurse class. Dorothy was a dedicated nurse with St. Mary's Hospital of Galveston, Texas and she retired after over 40 years of service.
Dorothy loved the Lord and was a member of Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Nurse's Aide Ministry. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. She enjoyed sewing and crochet.
She answered the beckoning call of her savior on July 9, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Left to cherish her legacy of service and love, her sons, Glenn F. Smtih and Darryl Smith; daughter, Cassandra L. Smith Hall; a host of grandchildren; brother, Herman Harper; nephews, Ralais and Eric Harper; niece, Sharyl Allen (Kenneth); special cousin, Verdia Harper and her Central High School class of '48.
