The family of Douglas L. Cone is saddened to announce his passing on June 28th, 2025 at the age of 83, in his home in Lubbock, TX. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn J. Cone; their three children: Lewis Cone of Dallas, TX; Wilson Cone of Santa Fe, NM; and Joel Cone of Manchaca, TX, three grandchildren, and three siblings: Clifford Cone, Tom Cone, and Cathie McCown. Born in Los Angeles, CA, Douglas grew up in Lovington, NM. He got his undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, then went on to earn his doctorate at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1969. He worked as a general practitioner for several years in Wyoming and Colorado, then changed careers to work in oil and gas in New Mexico and Texas, before returning to medical school to specialize in anesthesia. In 1987, he moved with his family from Albuquerque, NM, to settle in Lubbock, TX, where he pursued his career as an anesthesiologist for many years at St. Mary's Surgicenter. After retiring in 2008, Dr. Cone remained active in outdoor pursuits, gardening, traveling and enjoying time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
