Douglas Hren, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on June 27, 2025 in Whitehall, Michigan at the age of 75.
Doug was born on May 20,1950, in Fremont, Michigan and grew up on his family farm in Ferry Township in Hesperia. He attended Maple Range schoolhouse and Shelby High School. Doug was an avid outdoorsman, houndsman, mulerider and hunter who loved being in nature. He was happiest while outside, reading (before his vision failed), and working in his garden. Above all else, Doug treasured time spent with his four children and their families, as well as his large extended family and many friends.
Those who knew Doug remember him as hardworking, trustworthy, always eager to lend a hand, and quick to laugh. He will be remembered as a proud and dedicated father and grandfather who loved his family deeply and he will be missed by many.
Doug is survived by: his children, Tracy Hren, Tony (Michelle) Hren, Katie (Trevor) Hill and Karyn (Jake) McCollum; their mother, Theresa Cory (Hanes); grandchildren, Jonathan, Kaitlyn, Levi, Guinevere, Gabriel, Sophia, Molly, Stella, Claire, Hudson; great-granddaughter, Kenzlee; brothers, Richard Hren and Arthur Hren; sisters, Patricia Miller and Jean Zaverl; sister-in-law, Allitta Hren; many nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by: his parents, Anton and Blanche (Pranger) Hren; brothers, Tony Hren, Matthew Hren, John Hren and Thomas Hren; sisters, Helen Hren, Darlene Hren and Loretta Bantien.
A celebration of life will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, August 2, 2025 at Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Avenue in Shelby, with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion Post #411 in Hesperia from 12:30 to 2:30 PM.
