1939-2025
Our beloved dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend Duane LeGrand Kummer, age 85, returned home to his Heavenly Father on June 10, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family in his home in
Grantsville, UtahHe was born September 21, 1939, in Park City Utah to Ralph Frederick Kummer and Beatrice Sweeney. He married Janet Shirley Pulley, June 5, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Dad was born and raised in Park City, Utah. There he enjoyed the ice cream parlor (Pop Jenks), watching movies at the Egyptian Theater, and sledding down Main Street in the winter. He tromped through the hills picking choke cherries to sell to his teacher for.25¢ a bucket. He would then buy penny candy with that money.
As a young boy he developed a debilitating disease which never held him back. He was never one to complain. His positive outlook on life will never be forgotten!
Duane had a strong desire to serve a mission. He was turned down three different times however, because of his disability. He made an appointment with then Elder Hinckley, to tell him, "I don't care where you send me, but I will make it." His request was granted, and he honorably kept his promise to Elder Hinckley by completing his service in the California (South) Mission.
Duane worked as an accountant at LDS Hospital for more than 35 years. It was here that he met the love of his life, Janet. They would send love letters through the hospital messaging tubes, hoping they would get to each other and not someone else. Their love for each other was shown in every action for nearly 55 years.
Mom and dad raised their family in West Jordan, where they lived in the same home for 44 years. There they taught their children the values of compassion, hard work and service. They later moved to Grantsville spoiling their grandkids and great-grandkids, while teaching them these same values. Every grandchild loved visiting, talking, and laughing with grandpa! We all know his love was unconditional.
Dad had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, but his fondest memories came from being the Scout Master.
He is survived by his children Brian (Laura) Kummer, Tami (Bob) Chambers, Christy (Ryan) Wangsgard; grandsons, Andrew (Quinn), Coy (Lexi); granddaughters Madison (Jordan), Ashley (Coy), Alyssa (Corbin), Whitney (Collin), Courtney, Lindsey, and Mailey; great-grandsons, Luke and Wacey; great-granddaughter Grace.
He was welcomed to his heavenly home by his wife, Janet, son Jeff; parents Ralph and Beatrice, and brothers Glenn and LaMar.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 14, 2025, in the Grantsville West Stake Center (115 E Cherry St,
Grantsville, UT) at 11am. A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30am.
Interment will take place at Redwood Memorial Estates (6500 S Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT). Services will be under the care of Dalton – Hoops Funeral Home.
