Funeral services for Dusty Allen Oaks, 63, of Vidalia, LA will be held at First Baptist Church in Vidalia on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 2PM with Bro. Brad Watson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1PM until service time at 2PM. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.
Dusty was born on Monday, April 16, 1962 in Crawfordsville, IN to his parents, Eddie Conkright and Vivian Capps and passed away Monday, June 23, 2025 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. He was adopted by his grandparents, Elmer and Goldie Oaks. He graduated high school from Southmont Junior Senior High School (Class of 1982). Dusty had various jobs over his lifetime. In 2005, he married D'Shay Rushing. Over the years of his adult life, he enjoyed decorating the yard for Christmas and attending different car shows around Louisiana and Mississippi. Also he was instrumental in starting and planning the Cruising for a Cure Relay for Life Open Car Show every year.
He is reunited with his grandparents; parents; grandson, Maverick; father-in-law, Roy Rushing.
Those left to cherish Dusty's memories are his wife; daughters, Lisa, Michelle and Nikki all of Crawfordsville, IN; fur baby, Buttons; his sisters, Dixie Hegadore & her husband Danny of Calabash, NC, Barbie Roche & her husband Shane, Margaret Griggs & her husband Jeff, Kimberly Conkright, Stephanie Tharp & her husband Shawn, and Tammy Conkright all of Crawfordsville, IN; brother, Mark Shupe & his wife Judy of Brownsburg, IN; mother-in-law, Gail Young Rushing of Vidalia, LA; thirteen grandchildren plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Those honoring Dusty as pallbearers will be David Moss, Daniel Boyd, Russ Brasher, Daniel Davis, Tim Welch, Jeff Ames, Matthew Probst, and Whest Shirley.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Building Fund at First Baptist Church Vidalia,
