Dwain Currie of Linden, Texas, passed from this life on Tuesday, July, 1, 2025. He was born on May 4, 1934, at home on a ranch near Happy, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Thelma Currie. They were both descendants of pioneer families who settled the Texas Panhandle. Dwain was also predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Almeta; his son, Kip; sister, Norma Jo Price; and his brother Golden Currie.
Dwain was an active member of Atlanta Methodist Church since 1968. He served on numerous church committees, including chairman of the administrative board. He also served as a Sunday school teacher and usher team leader. Dwain was a former Texas High school football coach (10 years) in Canyon, Vega, Groom and Canadian, Texas. He retired from Horace Mann Insurance Company in 1994 after 25 years. He was a member of Gideon's for 40+ years. Dwain and his son Joe Kyle raised registered cattle, registered paint horses and timber on the family farm since 1968. There were very few things that he liked any better than watching and talking about football, making others laugh, helping others, working on the family farm and taking long extensive sightseeing trips with Almeta, his navigator and best friend. After retirement, they were very fortunate to be able to drive through the remainder of the lower 48 states, also including a trip to Alaska by ship. Dwain made many, many good friends while calling on schools in NE Texas for Horace Mann. He thought he was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet, visit with and make new friends. But most importantly when Dwain left this earthly home, he knew that he was going to be with his Lord and Savior-Jesus Christ, Almeta, Kip, and many other loved ones, forever.
Dwain is survived by his children Joe Kyle Currie of Atlanta, Texas, Lisa Dalton and husband William Jr. of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Clay Dalton, Blake Dalton, and Ty Dalton all of Houston, Texas, Isaiah Currie and wife Kimberly of Joaquin, Texas; great-granddaughter, Goldie Mae Currie of Joaquin, Texas; special friend and high school girlfriend, Peggy Jo Scott of Little Rock, Arkansas; and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
We are confident that there was a great reunion in heaven with Almeta and Kip when Dwain arrived. In 1957, Dwain promised Almeta- "till death do us part". During her stay at Rose Haven, he visited her each day. With much love, he held her hand and waited for God to take her home. He has joined her now with a promise kept. Praise be to God!
Private graveside services were held at New Colony Cemetery.
Memorial services will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Atlanta Methodist Church, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Pastor Stewart Kouba officiating.
