Hansen Funeral Home - VermillionEdith Irene (nee Blair) Nelson, 92, 0f Vermillion, SD, passed away on July 16 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
Edith was born on January 29, 1933, in Spink, SD, the daughter of Harold and Edna (Nee Aden) Blair. She graduated from Meckling High School in 1951. Edith married Harlin Nelson on March 20, 1954, at the United Methodist Church in Vermillion. They welcomed twin boys, Glenn and Gene, in August of 1957.
She was a homemaker for many years and later worked for the United States Postal Service in Meckling as the postmaster for more than twenty years. In retirement, she wintered in Sun City, AZ where she enjoyed many activities including golfing.
Edith was active in her church communities, Ladies’ Aide, extension activities, sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, knitting and was known for her cookies and brownies.
She is survived by her sons Glenn (Anita) Nelson, Gene (Diane) Nelson, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three sisters; Mary Ellen (Ellis) Jensen, Dorothy Blair and Helen (Buster) Walraven, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harlin, a granddaughter Kara, her in-laws; Nels Nelson, and Mary (Nee Sorenson) Anderson, her sisters and brothers-in-law; Carol Anne and Gary Bye, and Elaine and Lou Bredesky.
Memorial service will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 23 at the Bergen Lutheran Church rural Meckling, with the visitation starting at 9:30 AM all at the church. A luncheon will follow the service, and a family burial will take place after the lunch.
Memorials in Edith’s memory may be directed to the charity of your choice.
