Edna Mae Kleine (née Riner), age 103, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Born on May 23, 1922, in Elmwood, Ohio, she was the cherished daughter of August Frederick Riner and Lula D. (née Custer) Riner.
Beloved wife of the late Donald William Kleine, whom she married on September 18, 1946, Edna was a devoted mother to Roger Alan Kleine. She was the loving sister of Violet and the late Marie Coogan.
A proud graduate of Hartwell High School, Class of 1940, Edna contributed to the WWII home front effort by working as a bookkeeper for a machine tool company. Following the loss of her husband, she continued her dedication to serving others by working at Aiken High School for six and a half years.
Edna's lifelong commitment to helping others was reflected in her 33 years of volunteer service at Mercy Mt. Airy Hospital, retiring at the remarkable age of 91. She also shared her time and talents for 11 years as a volunteer at Sharon Woods Historical Village, where her warmth and dedication were deeply appreciated.
Her century-long life was a testament to hard work, resilience, and kindness. She will be fondly remembered by family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched through her service and friendship.
In lieu of plants, trees or flowers, donations may be sent to Mercy Health West Auxiliary Endowment Fund.
A memorial visitation will be held at Neidhard Young Funeral Home, 7401 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy, on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
