Edward Francis Baker, Jr., of Brockton, formerly of Holbrook, affectionately known as 'Eddie' to his friends and family, passed away after a brief courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at his home on June 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 3, 1959, in Boston, Eddie was the cherished son of the late Edward F. and Marie L. (Mitchell) Baker. His warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.
Eddie was the beloved husband of Judith (Jones) Baker, sharing a bond of love and friendship that was evident to everyone around them. His role as a loving step-father to Michael Gionet of Brockton was one he embraced with his whole heart. Eddie was also a devoted brother to Christopher Baker and his wife Laura of Abington, and Nancy Baker Fowler and her husband Mark of Hopkinton, brother-in-law to William Jones and his wife Catherine of Conway, SC and Thomas Jones and his wife Susan Jones of Sebring, FL. His many nieces and nephews, including Christopher Charles Fowler, Paris Marie Baker, Julia Marie Fowler, Liliana Regina Baker, and Oliver Edward Baker, will fondly remember their dear uncle for his unwavering support and playful spirit. Eddie also leaves numerous cousins, many dear friends, and his entire firefighter family.
Eddie's passion for life was evident in his many accomplishments and interests. After graduating from Blue Hills Regional Technical High School in 1977, he pursued a career as a diesel mechanic before finding his true calling as a firefighter. Eddie was a nationally and state certified Advanced EMT and served the Town of Holbrook for 30 years. His bravery and commitment to his community earned him the prestigious Medal of Valor
His life as a firefighter extended beyond the call of duty. He was the departments mechanic and as Holbrook's Fire Historian and photographer, he preserved the department's legacy with pride especially when organizing Firefighter Sunday every year in June. He retired in January 2024, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication.
Beyond his professional achievements, Eddie was particularly proud of being an Eagle Scout. As an avid handyman, a skill he generously offered to anyone in need. His kind nature made him a fast friend to many, and his beloved dog Gracie was a testament to his loving character. Eddie's culinary talents were renowned, especially within the firehouse, where he was often the go-to cook. He was a life-long learner and earned an associate degree inf Fire Science from Massasoit Community College. An expert in trivia, Eddie could always be counted on to know the answers to Jeopardy questions, much to the amusement and admiration of his friends and family. In recent years Eddie acquired a new-found love of country music and was a number one fan of the band 'Runaway June'.
His dedication to his work was matched only by his love for spending quality time with family and friends. Eddie will be remembered as an extraordinarily loving, kind, and handy individual who left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
