EDWARD HASTINGS Obituary

HASTINGS, Edward Irick Died on Thursday, February 5, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, after a brief illness. He was 90 years old. Born in New Hampshire, Edward grew up in Woburn, MA and graduated from Woburn High in 1953. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, for three years, from 1954 to 1957 and continued his military commitment until 1962. He worked at Arthur D. Little, an international management consulting firm, for more than 50 years, starting in the stock room out of high school and eventually blossoming into a manager of several departments at ADL, including purchasing, printing and shipping and receiving. At ADL, he met his wife of almost 60 years, Joan. Edward and Joan raised two boys, John and Douglas, in Burlington. While working full-time and raising his children, Edward went back to school and earned a Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University, by attending night classes. He was a provider and kept his family very well taken care of. He was quiet and kept to himself, but he was always watching to be sure his family was ok. Both Edward and Joan were active members of the Burlington community. Ed served a lengthy term on the town's Conversation Committee and also, after retiring, spent many years volunteering at the town elections, and for the Burlington Police Department and Burlington Cable Access Television (BCAT). He also served as a volunteer in several roles at a campground in Lebanon, Maine, owned by his son, John and his wife, Mary. In his later years, Ed enjoyed bowling, watching the Boston Bruins, eating his daily breakfast at Jimmy's Family Restaurant in Burlington or his regular dinner at Burger King, feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard and mostly hanging around with his dogs. Ed is survived by his son, John and his wife, Mary, who live in Lyman, Maine; and have two children, Alex of Woburn and Bailee of Sanford, Maine. Bailee and her husband, Tyler; have two daughters, Piper and Nora, who Ed was lucky enough to meet in person. Ed's son, Doug, lives in Burlington Ed was predeceased by his wife, Joan, in 2024; and his late siblings, Cliff and Eleanor. Ed has six nieces and nephews, Eric, Kurt, Mark and Diane live in New Hampshire, Jason lives in Colorado and Scott, who died in 1984. At his request, all Funeral Services are private and at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, Ed was passionate about a scholarship that was started in his wife's name for Burlington High and Shawsheen Tech student/athletes. To donate to the scholarship, the foundation has a Venmo page at @JBH-Scholarship with a photo of Joan holding her great-granddaughter. For more information on the scholarship, email Ed's son, Doug, at [email protected] Arrangements are by Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, BURLINGTON.
