Edward Howard, aged 70, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland. Born on September 18, 1954, Ed was the seventh child of the late Thomas and Mary (Finley) Howard. He was welcomed into the family by his elder siblings, Mary Jane, John, Marvin, Richard, Mike, and Nancy.
Ed was a proud member of the 1973 graduating class at Mt. Pleasant High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines alongside his wingman Tony Yager, serving his country with pride from 1973 to 1975.
On July 1, 1978, Ed married Dorothy Archey in Isabella County, and together they were blessed with three sons: Eddie, Charles, and James. Ed dedicated his career to the building industry, working for Jerel Konwinski, Isabella County, and eventually retiring from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
In his leisure time, Ed enjoyed golfing, hunting, and cheering for his favorite sports teams, the Lions, Tigers, and Beal City Aggies. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Ed is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Dorothy; sons, Eddie (Jordan Smith) Howard of Beal City, Charlie Howard of Cedar Springs, and James Howard (fiancée Samantha Hubbard) of Lake Isabella; grandchildren, Brinlee, Cora, Caige, Lyla, Addison, and Oaklynn; siblings, Mike Howard of Maryland and Nancy Bell of Mt. Pleasant; in-laws, John and Mary Bretschneider, Carol Thrush, and Jim and Kathy Archey; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Tony and Nita Yager; and his faithful canine companion, Nola.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mary Howard; parents-in-law, Bud and Betty Archey; and siblings and their spouses, Jane and Jerry Darnell, John and Iva Howard, Marvin and Kathy Howard, Richard Howard, Frances "Fran" Howard, and Greg Thrush.
A service celebrating Ed's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Celebrant Michelle Sponseller officiating. A luncheon will follow at Lincoln Reception Center. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and on Monday one hour before the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Michigan Veterans Fund, Commission on Aging, American Legion, or the Eagles of Weidman and Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
