Edwin A. Cardoza passed away peacefully at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veteran's Hospital of Bedford, on Saturday, August 2nd, after a lengthy illness. He was 74. Born in Medford and raised in Medford and Somerville, Ed was the son of the late William and Eleanor (Flynn) Cardoza.
After high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany and Korea during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge Ed went to work in the Boston Sea Port as a line handler. He was responsible for guiding and securing large ocean going vessels at the docks. In later years, Ed worked for the City of Medford and served with the Public Libraryâ??s maintenance crew.
There is no doubt that Ed was a fun loving guy. His family and friends meant the world to him. He enjoyed sports, playing cards and was a member of the famed Red Skins Club in Medford and the ITAM club. He enjoyed long days at the beach where he could be found with family and friends wearing one of his signature Hawaiian shirts and an awesome hat. He treasured time with his children and grandchildren and was always grateful for the many friendships in his life.
Ed was a devoted father to Maureen Cardoza, Edwin Cardoza, Jr. and his wife Shawnteel, James Cardoza and his wife Reneeâ??, all of Michigan, and Amy Cardoza and her partner Frankie Beaulieu of Medford. He was a loving grandfather to Bryan, Sean, Danny, Lexi and her husband Austin, Payton and her husband Jake, Aaron and his wife Kenzie, Kendra, Emily and her husband Zack, Andrew, Lizzy, Connor, Jimbo, Eli, Anthony and Damian. He was a loving Great-grandfather to Ryder, CJ, Grayson, Blakely, Everly, and Hudson. Ed was a dear brother to Eleanor â??Bunnyâ? Dooley and her husband James, Leonard â??Patâ?? Cardoza, Dorothy Rowley and her late husband Steve, Laura Chamberlain and her husband Mark, Thomas Dunn and Andrea Kramer, and Joe Dunn. He was predeceased by his brothers William, John â??Buddyâ? and Daniel Cardoza and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Thursday, August 7th from 4 â?? 8 PM and again on Friday, August 8th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM celebrated in St Joseph Church, 118 High St, Medford.
