Edwin "Ed" Viering Peterson, Jr., 74, of Mansfield, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Windham Hospital, with his loving wife of 30 years, Lynn, by his side, along with his sister Susan. He was born on February 26, 1951, in Hartford, CT, to the late Edwin Peterson Sr. and Olive (Haversat) Peterson. Lynn devoted many years with love and support of Ed. He was her true soulmate.
A graduate of Coventry High School (Class of 1969), Ed continued his education at the University of Connecticut before beginning his lifelong career in construction. He was known for his strong work ethic, love of working with his hands, and his deep connection to the outdoors. Whether it was tending to his garden, enjoying a day of skeet shooting, or casting a line while fishing, Ed found joy in nature. Above all, he cherished being there for his family and friends, always offering his support when needed. Ed was extremely protective of his sister Susan.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Peterson of Mansfield; his daughter, Dawn Wilkens and her husband Tim; his son Edwin Peterson, III; his siblings, Paul Peterson and his wife Janice of North Carolina, Susan MacDonald and her husband Clinton of Coventry, and James Peterson and his wife Diane of Washington State. He also leaves behind his grandson, Jacob Peterson; nieces and nephews Alan Gray and wife Vera Gray and their son Justin Gray, Bethany Bennet, Jennifer Carney, Luke Peterson, Ryan Peterson, and Christopher Gray, who was a steadfast presence in his life. In addition, Ed leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Kislowski.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM at Potter's Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT 06226
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mansfield Volunteer Fire Department, 4 S. Eagleville Road, Storrs Mansfield, CT 06268.
Ed will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his love for the outdoors, and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.
