WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Eileen B. Ahonen was born on Dec. 10, 1927, in Wakefield, to August and Sanna Klemettila. She passed away peacefully at the age of 97, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.
Eileen was married to Reuben Ahonen on July 19, 1947. They resided in Wakefield and then later in Skokie, Illinois, and had 46 years of marriage before his passing in 1993.
Eileen returned to Wakefield later in life and was married to Carl Makela for 17 years until his passing in 2023.
Eileen is survived by three children, Geri Harrman, Wakefield, Nancy Fiori, Bergland, and David Ahonen, Mundelein, Illinois; her son-in-law, Michael Schmidt; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Reuben Ahonen; three children, James Ahonen, Donna Schmidt and Susan Ahonen; a grandchild, Paul Readinger; a great-grandchild, Carter Kiser; three sons-in-law, Bob Wiech, Jim Jefferson and Dave Fiori; and her husband, Carl Makela.
Her family would like to thank the amazing staff at Gogebic Medical Care Facility for their loving care of Eileen.
Out of respect for Eileen's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
