Eileen Rose (Schifferer) Bahr
October 13th, 1930 – July 3rd, 2025
Eileen Rose (Schifferer) Bahr, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2025 at the age of 94, surrounded by the love of her family and the faith that guided her life.
Born on October 13th, 1930, in Elgin, Illinois, to Sam Schifferer and Celestine Pusch, Eileen lived a life marked by a quiet strength and deep devotion to God, family, and her "Rudy." She graduated from high school in Elgin in 1948 and later attended business college while working as a secretary to fund her education.
Eileen met the love of her life, Rudolph "Rudy" Bahr, through their church group in Elgin. After Rudy returned from military service, their courtship led to marriage on May 16th, 1954, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Elgin. The two built a strong, faith-filled life together on their farm in Gridley, Kansas.
Together, Eileen and Rudy raised four children-Paula, Jeff (Janice), Sam, and Jon-and created a home centered on love, hard work, and hospitality. She was a proud grandmother of three and great-grandmother of eleven, always treasuring the joy of family.
A gifted homemaker and dedicated church member, Eileen taught Sunday School for many years and was involved in 4-H, sewing, gardening, and music. She had a special love for lilacs, apple pie with vanilla ice cream, hymns, and the comforts of home. After her children were grown, she took librarian coursework at Emporia State, later serving as a librarian for the Gridley Public Library until her retirement in 1997.
She was known for her great potluck food, love of Christian novels, enjoyment of music, and her dedication to the Lord. In her own words, Eileen said, "I have tried to always live a life centered around God's will." When asked what she was most thankful for, she answered simply, "The Lord blessed me with a wonderful husband and family."
Eileen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rudy in 2006 and by her son Jon in 1986. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, good food, lending a neighbor a helping hand, and making the most of each day.
A celebration of Eileen's life will be held at the Lamont Apostolic Christian Church on Monday, July 7th at 2:45 p.m. with a visitation beforehand from 1:00-2:30 p.m. and graveside services following.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home, 511 Paramount St, Sabetha, KS 66534, or the Gridley Branch, Coffey County Library, 512 Main St, Gridley, KS 66852, or may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.

Paula, My thoughts are with you as you take care of the business and say your last farewell to your mother here on earth. May God be with you and grant you grace and courage to live for the Lord so you can meet again in heaven.
