Elaine Townsend Ivey
February 22, 1942 – April 22, 2025
Also lovingly known as Momma and Mawmaw, Elaine Townsend Ivey passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Waleska, Cherokee County, Georgia, she was a longtime resident of Bethlehem, GA in Gwinnett County.
Elaine was a proud graduate of Fairmount High School and a faithful member of Atkinson Road Baptist Church. Her life was one of quiet strength, joy, and deep faith. She was the heart of her family-a devoted wife, nurturing mother, proud grandmother, and caring sister.
Elaine's days were filled with the simple pleasures that brought her joy: cooking meals that gathered family around the table, tending to her garden, sewing with care, singing hymns, and shopping for those she loved. She gave her time generously as a room mother and Sunday school teacher, always putting her family and community first.
In earlier years, Elaine worked as a bank teller, substitute teacher, and housekeeper. But her greatest role was that of homemaker-creating a home filled with love, laughter, and a sense of belonging. Her smile could light up a room, and her warmth made everyone feel seen, heard, and cherished.
Elaine's family meant everything to her, and she made each of them feel uniquely loved. She will be remembered as a sweet, loyal, respectful, and loving soul who brought happiness and security to all who knew her. Her legacy is one of faith, kindness, generosity, and deep-rooted family bonds.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Wylene Townsend, her sister Laverne, and her beloved twin brother, Wayne Townsend.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, who loved her dearly and unconditionally, W. Burney Ivey Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Laticia and Eric Hardin; her son, Jason Ivey; her cherished grandchildren, Erica and Matthew Hardin; her sisters, Arlene Kittle and Patsy Bryant; her brother, Randall Townsend; as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Elaine's family finds comfort in knowing that her life was filled with meaningful moments, laughter, stories, and the unconditional love she so freely gave.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wages & Sons Funeral Home & Crematories, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. An additional visitation will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, at Salacoa Baptist Church, 100 Collins Place, Waleska, GA 30183. Interment will follow immediately after the service.
Elaine's life was a beautiful testament to love, family, and faith. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
