Obituary of Elder Deborah E. Harris-Nock
Affectionately Known as "Debbie".
Elder Deborah E. Harris-Nock, lovingly known to family and friends as Debbie, was born in
Milford, Delaware to the late Virginia E. Dickerson and Carroll Harris. She lived a life marked by faith, service, compassion, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
Debbie received her formal education in the Woodbridge School District and graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1971. She went on to further her education at the University of Delaware, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1975.
Her professional life reflected her passion for serving others. She worked faithfully at Howard T. Ennis School and the Stokley Center, both located in Georgetown, Delaware, where she made a lasting impact on countless lives. Debbie also served the State of Delaware with distinction, working under two Governors, including serving as Deputy Public Guardian for four years-a role that demonstrated her commitment to advocacy and care for those in need.
In addition to her professional career, Debbie opened her heart and home through foster care, nurturing and loving many children over the years. Her life was a testament to selflessness and generosity.
Alongside her husband and daughter, Debbie was also a proud co-owner of Harris-Nock Funeral Services, a family-owned business that served the community with dignity and compassion for many years.
Debbie's faith was central to her life. She served faithfully as an Elder, offering wisdom, encouragement, and spiritual guidance to all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her beloved husband, Elder Jeffery Nock Sr., of Seaford, DE; her children, stepson Pastor Jeffery Nock, Jr. (Evangelist Tawana) of Columbia, PA, and stepdaughter LaShonda Cooke of Harrington, DE; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her godchildren, Sherrie Carroll and Mallett Smith of Bridgeville, DE; her brothers, Michael Harris Sr. of Annapolis, MD, and Darrell Harris (Hillary) of Greenwood, DE.
She is also survived by five sister-in-laws: Doraynia Nedab (Ivan Nedab) of San Antonio, TX; Sharon Chambers (Ricardo) of Brooklyn, NY; Wanda Hall (Burliss) of Millsboro DE; Mary J Roberts of Atlantic, VA; and Billie R. Fisher of New Church, VA.
She leaves three beloved aunts- Augusta Carr-Ross, Cleo Blake, and Kathleen Dickerson, all of Bridgeville, DE; and one uncle, Daniel Harris of Tallahassee, FL.
Debbie will also be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a special cousin Beverly Banks of Dover, DE; her best friend and longtime hairdresser Gladys "Peaches" Brooks of Bridgeville, DE; and a very close friend Alice Betterly of Dover, DE.
She was proceeded in death by her beloved daughter Amber D. Harris, her parents, and foster brother William Pinder.
Elder Deborah E. Harris-Nock's legacy of faith, love, service, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
