Eleanor Niagas, 75, of Bordentown, passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Born in Trenton, she was married to her life-long love, John Niagas, in June of 1968, who preceded her in death in 2020. Together they built a wonderful life filled with love, dancing, travel and family. They often invited family and friends for dinner. When you walked into their home, you would often find them dancing around the kitchen to their favorite oldies. They loved to dance and often attended dances at the Colonial Fire House. They made many friendships there that lasted a lifetime.
Eleanor loved to travel. That fondness turned into a career in travel. She worked as the group travel manager at Graycar Travel in Hamilton, NJ for over 30 years. Her co-workers were like family.
She dedicated her life to spending time with family and taking care of her children and grandkids, Gabrielle, Alex and Nick. She attended nearly every baseball game and every musical performance and was their number one fan. It gave her great joy to watch them grow up.
In her spare time, she was an avid poker player and won many tournaments. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble and was highly competitive. Family events always included card games and she instilled her love of cards in several family members. She enjoyed baking. Her signature chocolate pudding pie, pineapple upside down cake and cookies will be missed.
Predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Marie (Ostermeier) Schwartz and her husband, John Niagas; she is survived by her daughters, Christin Takacs, and her husband, Charles Brian Takacs, and Melissa Marino and her husband, Michael Marino; her sisters, Marie Lukacs and Theresa Sparks; her brother, Charles Schwartz and Mohamed; and her grandchildren, Gabrielle Takacs, Alexander Marino, and Nicholas Marino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows RC Church, 3816 E State Street, Hamilton, NJ 08619.
Interment will follow at Bordentown Cemetery in Bordentown, NJ.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
