Elgie Grabitz, 90 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at IHM Senior Living Community in Monroe.
Born December 19, 1934, in New Tazewell, Tennessee, Elgie was the daughter of the late John L. and Roxie A. (Lynch) Drummonds. The family moved to Monroe in 1948.
On March 21, 1964, Elgie married her beloved husband, Roman S. Grabitz, in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on March 23, 2011, after 47 years of marriage.
Elgie worked at Ford Motor Company's Monroe Plant for 19 ½ years from which she retired as a Machine Operator in 1988. She worked at various other places in Monroe over the years including: Kresge's, Sam's Drug Store, Al's Diner, Federal's Department Store and as teachers aid for Jefferson Public Schools. She enjoyed crocheting.
Elgie is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Joel) Schultz of Dundee, a daughter in law, Shari Patterson of Monroe, four grandchildren: Johnnie R. (Lauren) Patterson, Jr., Lauren "Lolo" (Thomas) Young, Timothy Daniel (Courtney Cole) Stamper, Sr., and Nesha Schultz, three great grandsons: Timothy Daniel Stamper, Jr., Henry Roman Patterson, and Jack Oliver Patterson, and her brother, William Harold (Alida) Drummonds of Speedwell, TN.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Elgie was preceded in death by her son, Johnnie R. Patterson, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025 from 1 – 3 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161.
Private interment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery.
