Elizabeth Doherty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schneider Funeral Home - Hatboro on Nov. 5, 2025.
Elizabeth May Doherty of Hatboro went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2025. Born on May 20,1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Amanda McCreery. Betty was the beloved wife of James R. Doherty Sr (Jim). She was his "Schatzi," sharing 72 years of marriage.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Cheryl Beaver, Sharon Bauz (Karl) and Jim Doherty (Donna); grandchildren, Jennifer Brandis (Tom), Eryn Meenan (Steve), Michelle Difusco (Freddie), Kelly Beaver, Brett Bauz (Courtney), Karlee Gana (Mike), Amanda Didolkar (Parijat), Ryan Doherty (Kristina), Kaitlyn Doherty and 17 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her sister Helen Haldeman.
Betty was a dedicated member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1955, where she was a member of the Altar Guild, was a monitor of the confirmation classes and assisted with home communion.
During World War II she took pride in assisting the air raid warden checking blackout curtains in the neighborhoods. Betty volunteered her time at American Red Cross blood banks. She was on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Graeme Park and managed the gift shop. She was an avid reader and loved to do counted cross stitch for family and friends. She enjoyed listening to Mantovani and never missed an episode of Murder She Wrote!
Betty and Jim travelled extensively, including fulfilling her lifelong dream of visiting Israel. Williamsburg, Virginia, was a favorite, and she spent 3 summers working on an archaeological dig.
To Betty, family was always first, and together she and Jim never missed an event their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. Christmas was the ultimate family gathering with 42 filled stockings hanging on the fireplace and a house filled with love and laughter. Memories were made to be treasured forever!
Relatives and friends will be received by her family on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 505 North York Road, Hatboro, Pennsylvania. Her interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Elizabeth's memory may be made to Tunnel to Towers (an organization supporting veterans and first responders).

Betty, you were a treasure to me. I will always hold dear to my heart our "tea visits." I loved our talks about politics, the world & the wonderful life you shared with Jim.
Rest in peace,
Patty (aka Your Favorite)
