Ellen Armstrong Obituary

Ellen Doughty Armstrong went to her heavenly home on July 2, 2025. Mom was born October 28, 1937, at Flukers Bluff, LA to parents Leo Doughty and Helen Hurst Doughty. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Chipola playing in the woods near the Amite River. In the early 1970's you could find her on the seat of a 90 cc Honda, running the "State Line Run" or climbing the hills near the Hurst Camp. You could also find her riding through the woods of Chipola. She was an expert gardener digging in the dirt planting flowers and fruit trees. Mom had a knack for making things grow, she received this trait from her mother. She had birdhouses of every kind, but she particularly loved watching her bluebirds. Mom was a wonderful cook, her cornbread, biscuits, pies, and coffee were her claim to fame. She was an expert seamstress masterfully making her youngest daughter's wedding dress. In her later years, she enjoyed making quilts for her family. Mom also worked outside the home, she was a school bus driver, assisted Dr. Richard "Dick" Munson in Clinton with his medical practice, a teller/bookkeeper at Clinton Bank and Trust, retiring with the State of Louisiana. Being a mother was her calling in life, even though she wore many hats during her lifetime. She had a loving, giving heart, especially for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Greta Sue Kirby. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Fred Lynn Armstrong, children Michael (Karen), Peggy Vaughan (Duane) and Mary Ellen Goza (Greg), 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and her sister Leota Jean Ray. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Community Baptist Church, 1109 Highway 1043 Greensburg, LA from 1pm to 2pm with the service beginning at 2pm. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Stewart and Reverend Larry Blades. Burial immediately following at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, 5177 Highway 448, Greensburg, LA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
