Ellen L. (Brown) Davis, 97, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on June 30, 2025, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. Ellen was born on September 18, 1927, in Taylorville, to the late Charles and Clara (Huffman) Brown. On June 4, 1950, she married Robert E. Davis. They spent many happy years together before he preceded her in death in 2012.
Ellen graduated from Taylorville High School in 1945. After graduating from high school, Ellen taught at Brush College, a one room schoolhouse. She attended and graduated with a master's degree from Arizona State University. Ellen and Robert spent most of their lives residing in Arizona and loved traveling together. She enjoyed spending her free time reading, watching Cubs baseball, and studying genealogy.
She is survived by her sister: Marilyn (Brown) Dixon of Taylorville, IL; nieces and nephews: Susan (Andy) Chaney; Kevin (Tricia) Brown; Joan (Kent) Bohnhoff; Jill (Dave) Spengler; Chuck (Kathy) Guthrie; Debra (Larry) Johnson; Sue (Paul) Althoff; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as two great-great-nieces and seven great-great-nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ellen was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Virgil (Martha Brown) Greffe; Charles J. (Vivian) Brown; Robert (Mildred Brown) Garwood; Milford Brown; Charles Guthrie; Norman Dixon; two nieces: Peggy McCombs and Janet Cook; and a great-nephew: Joel Bohnhoff.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 3:00p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Christian County Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels located at 701 West Adams Street in Taylorville, to the Taylorville Public Library located at 121 W. Vine Street in Taylorville, or to the donor's choice.
