Elmer Stephen Dewey, 88, of Washington, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 14, 1937 in St. Clair, Michigan to the late Donald and Freeda Dewey.

Elmer married CarolAnn Sicken on June 8, 1957 in Our Lady on the River Parish Holy Cross in Marine City and was married for 63 years prior to her passing in 2020.

He began his career at Chris Craft in Algonac, Michigan as a cost estimator, which eventually led him to Pompano Beach, Florida, where he lived the majority of his life. He later served in a similar capacity at Bertram Yachts in Miami, Florida.

After his career in the marine industry, Elmer was the Director of Mutuels at Pompano Park Racetrack and ended his professional career as a tax auditor for the State of Florida in the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco.

Elmer is survived by his daughter, Diane (Jeff) Nance of Washington, MI and son, Stephen (Karin) Dewey of Pompano Beach, FL; Grandsons, Christopher (Alyssa) Nance of Grand Rapids, MI and Matthew (Kenadie) Nance of Reading, OH; two great-grandsons, Beckham and Declan Nance and great-granddaughter, Camryn Nance; as well as his dear sister, Emma Sharrow of Port Huron, MI and sister-in-law, Sharon Dewey of Cedar Rapids, IA. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elmer was preceded in death by granddaughter, Sarah Nance, brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Edith Dewey and brother, Harvey Dewey.

He was a proud graduate of Marine City High School, Class of 1955, where he played football, basketball, baseball and track. He remained an avid sports fan, that was a "walking encyclopedia" of names and stats.

Elmer also loved listening to music, woodworking and anything horse racing related. He had a great love for animals, especially his pet cats.

He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus of Pompano Beach, FL.

Elmer loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be deeply missed.

Burial will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery in Marine City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to DAWG-Detroit Animal Welfare Group at 78440 McKay Rd., Bruce Township, MI 48065 or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were entrusted to Grace Memorial.
