Elmer Earnest, age 88, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Elmer was born on Feb. 9, 1937 in rural Iowa to Blanche and Raymond Earnest. He was married June 24, 1961 to Patty Earnest in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in Grafton, Wis., until their retirement in 2000, when they moved to Mountain, Wis. Elmer was a teacher for many years for the Milwaukee Public Schools, and an Army veteran.
He enjoyed sports of all kinds, and loved to tell stories of his baseball and fastpitch softball playing days. He loved the outdoors and spent his retirement years living in the Wisconsin Northwoods, where he was happiest. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a loyal friend to many, and a good man to know if you ever needed help with anything.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patty; son, Brian (Brenda) Earnest of Stevens Point, Wis.; grandchildren, Leah, AJ, Nathan and Adam; one sister, Jeanette, of Harlan, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his daughter, Kari; two infant children; his parents; and sisters, Geri and Joann.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church, Lakewood, WI, from 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials to the Mountain Ambulance Service (P.O. Box 85, Mountain, WI 54149) are appreciated.
